On June 15, 2018, C-SPAN broadcast a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing on charter schools, exploring their advantages and challenges. Education advocates and scholars testified on topics including the value of charter schools, best practices for teachers, parental involvement, and access for underserved groups like low-income students and “DREAMers” (undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children). The hearing also addressed the growing role of online charter school programs. Key committee members, including Representatives Bobby Scott (D-VA), Alma Adams (D-NC), and Jim Banks (R-IN), engaged with witnesses to discuss equity, accountability, and innovation in charter education. This C-SPAN archived video is a valuable resource for educators, policymakers, and parents interested in the evolving landscape of charter schools.
