Dominique Foster and Jada Chase are a dynamic charter teacher duo who exemplify the credo that “behind every extraordinary teacher stands another extraordinary teacher.” Together, they are bringing learning to life for preschoolers.
Ms. Foster, the 2022 Washington DC Teacher of the Year and an early childhood specialist, and assistant teacher to Ms. Chase, started working together at Friendship Public Charter School Blow Pierce Academy in February 2020. The key to their success? Investing time to get to know each other and plan over the summer. By investing in their own working relationship, they build trust that empowers both to bring creativity into the classroom daily. During their recent community unit, for example, students not only dressed up like firefighters, police officers, chefs and construction workers but they also met individuals who hold these important positions. Through it all, students are in the presence of two extraordinary teachers who model not only how important it is to bring the very best for students every day but how doing so is made possible through the trust and support they offer one another.
