The Founders Library Speaks for Charters

June 29, 2023

“Charter schools were created to provide public school choice with independence outside the traditional district structure, but were always public schools protected by the U.S. Constitution.”

The Founders Library played an impactful role in speaking out for the constitutional rights of charter schools in a Supreme Court ruling June 27th, 2023. The Oral History of former North Carolina House Speaker, Harold Brubaker, captured by the National Charter Schools Founders Library, was used to establish the original founding purpose of the charter schools movement to provide school choice for all. In this interview, he talked about the legislative intent of charters being public. This was used by Renita Thukral and the legal team at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools to help make the case with the Solicitor General.
