Amazing Teachers Spotlight: Abigail Grimaldi and Meredith Galloway

January 19, 2022

Abigail, a long-time teacher at Westlake Charter School (K-8), is known for being as strong of a culture builder and ambassador for “all things Westlake” as anyone within the organization. Meredith, meanwhile, is a newcomer, having recently completed her Ph.D. in education at Sacramento State and having had her doctoral thesis recognized as the most compelling dissertation completed last year. Now Abigail and Meredith are paired together. They have been there for their 9th grade students and for one another through all the challenges related to the pandemic and during the school’s first year. It’s a spirit that has been adopted by the entire founding faculty at Westlake High School where an equal mix of Westlake’s seasoned team members and newcomers are spreading Westlake culture while growing the pedagogical expertise needed to offer an outstanding high school program.

As we enter the fourth decade of chartering, we know that finding ways to innovate new systems of support for teachers will be central to our ability to expand our collective impact on behalf of students and families. At the heart of that effort lies a recognition that what has allowed our movement to thrive is our shared belief that “behind every extraordinary teacher stands another extraordinary teacher.”

We are inspired by the stories of these dynamic charter teacher duos and recognize this is but a sampling of the profound contributions teachers are making for their school communities each day. And we are grateful to the charter school teachers who are providing access to an inspiring K-12 public education and helping all students realize their goals, passions, and high potential.
